The Solar Decathlon is an international competition held by the US Department of Energy to design and build the mostst energy-efficient and attttractive solar-powered home while raising public awarenessss of energy-efficient conststruction.

Twenty teams of students from all over the world compete against each other in this competition.
This year, the Nimbus Group is supporting the Rosenheim University of Applied Sciences and the University of Wuppertal in the Solar Decathlon. The Nimbus Group will put its years of know-how and efficient LED.next technology into two quite different projects.

Up to now the Solar Decathlon has always been held in Washington D.C., right in front of the White House. In 2010 the competition is due to take place on European soil for the first time and will be organized by the Spanish Ministry of Construction. In June 2010, the “Villa Solar” will be erected on an area covering 30,000 square metres the banks of the Rio Manzanares opposite Spain’s Royal Palace. This will become the official venue for the Solar Decathlon Europe 2010. All the finalists will build their project houses just outside the gates of the old city, next to the so-called “Green Lung”, the city’s largest park. The houses will be scored by jurors during a one-week exhibition in June.
As Dietrich Brennenstuhl, CEO of the Nimbus Group stated: “With LED.next and intelligent lighting control in our portfolio, we have future-oriented technologies at our disposal which help save energy in both homes and office buildings. We are continuing to develop these technologies to create the light of the future. With their innovative ideas, the universities play a central role in this undertaking.”
